Religious Education

All state schools are also required to make provision for a daily act of collective worship and must teach religious education to pupils at every key stage.

Our RE curriculum is derived from the Herefordshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education 2011-2016 which has the principal aim of engaging pupils in enquiring into and exploring questions arising from the study of religion and belief, so as to promote their personal, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

The syllabus has been structured around key questions which encourage pupils to develop and use their skills of reflection, interpretation, analysis and application, as well as developing their knowledge and understanding of religion and belief.

Collective worship

Collective Worship takes the form of a daily assembly for the whole school. It is an opportunity to help children to reflect on their own experiences and to recognise and celebrate the values and beliefs of the whole community, both in school and the wider world.

At Garway we use the daily assembly as an opportunity to explore and celebrate focus weeks (e.g. Road Safety Week), festivals (e.g. Easter, Diwali) and ‘special days’ (e.g. Mothering Sunday, Remembrance).
